Automatic provisioning of MS Teams and channels
Microsoft Teams is a platform that enables collaboration across business units. Each unit (department, sub-department, etc.) is represented as a team in Microsoft Teams. The Microsoft platform allows you to map your organization within the Teams environment. Two questions are critical to structuring the platform in a viable way:
- How is a Microsoft Teams team created?
- How are the activities within the Microsoft Teams team structured?
Both of these issues are key to ensuring that the platform can add value to your organization's workflow. By creating a team in a meaningful way, additional information (called contextual information, such as location, parent department, country) is added to that object. This makes it easier to find documents, for example, or to dynamically display teams at different locations on the intranet. Within a Teams team, channels are used to structure the work items or work streams of that team. Here, too, added value is generated through a sensible process.
This white paper presents a scalable and programmatic approach to creating teams in Microsoft Teams. This means that the corresponding customised configurations for the teams to be created are stored and used when the team is created. Despite this flexibility for each user, a high level of IT governance is maintained to ensure easy maintainability in the M365 ecosystem within the administrative interfaces.
